JILDA SHERNOFF ATTENDS DON PASSMAN, PARTNER, GANG TYRE RAMER & BROWN 32ND ANNUAL AJC LEARNED HAND AWARD
LOS ANGELES - On November 7, 2012, AJC Los Angeles presented Don Passman, music industry giant and partner at the law firm of Gang Tyre Ramer & Brown, with its 32nd Annual Learned Hand Award at a gala dinner in his honor at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Members of the Los Angeles legal community, among other prominent Angelenos, filled Le Grand Trianon room to honor Passman for his outstanding professional achievements and extensive philanthropic activities. The event raised close to $400,000.
As one of America’s top entertainment attorneys, Don Passman has represented musical titans, including Janet Jackson, R.E.M.,Tom Waits, Tina Turner, Quincy Jones, Green Day, Bonnie Raitt, Radiohead, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Randy Newman and Pink, among others.
"In addition to his distinguished professional career, Don is committed to charitable work with a variety of organizations including Beit T’Shuvah and The City of Hope," said Regional Director of AJC Los Angeles, Rabbi Mark Diamond. A graduate of the University of Texas and Harvard Law School, Passman is listed in The Best Lawyers of America. He is the author of the nonfiction bestseller “All You Need to Know About the Music Business,” which has sold more than 300,000 hardcopies, and is now in its Eighth Edition. Passman has lectured at the University of Southern California Law School's Advanced Professional Program, the UCLA Entertainment Law Symposium, Harvard Law School, and the American Bar Association.

The Honorable Alex Kozinski, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, delivered a rousing keynote address. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1985, Kozinski is one of America’s most recognizable circuit court judges. He has gained support and admiration from both sides of the political aisle with his clear and common sense, humorous judicial opinions.
Named in memory of Judge Learned Hand, one of America’s great jurists and humanitarians, the award is given to outstanding members of the legal profession whose professional and community activities have played a significant role in the betterment of the community. Their career, ideals, and achievements mirror the high principles and noble tradition associated with Learned Hand. The theme of this year’s event, “In Harmony: Freedom, Democracy and AJC” is in keeping with the ideals of the award and the tenets of AJC.
